Music Blahs from Listen by Sarah Dessen

“Some people think they like music, but they have no idea what it’s really all about. They’re kidding themselves. Then there are people who feel strongly about music, but just aren’t listening to the right stuff. They’re misguided. And then there are people like me.” “…music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common. ” “…that music is a total constant. That’s why we have such a strong visceral connection to it, you know? Because a song can take you back instantly to a moment, or a … Continue reading Music Blahs from Listen by Sarah Dessen

What Life is Like

It’s been a while since I dated Sethe, my six-stringed lover. I have been too preoccupied struggling with life. I’ve been to many places and met different faces I barely remember. Everything is fast tracked. And I keep on going and going regardless if my body aches of exhaustion. I just want to escape from any kind of pains. Now I am back and they are still there. Tonight, I’ll be oblivious to all sorts of distractions. I’ll play hard and scream loud. Learn new songs and create my own. I’d be a happy girl. Far as I expected, it … Continue reading What Life is Like

Dear Officemates

Dear Officemates, Working with such great minds like you is such an honor. I need not talk. I need not seek. Learning is all possible by mere listening to what you are doing. Sometimes I questioned why I am here. I feel that I don’t fit. I feel so incompetent. But it doesn’t matter. I like all the interesting things you and our work injected on me. The very reason I stayed. Weird as you often tell me, I hope you understand why I refuse to dine out with you (If only I got the appetite). Or play badminton with … Continue reading Dear Officemates

A Letter to Dad

Dearest Papa, Hey! Just droppin’ by to greet you a happy, happy birthday! Remember lullaby your for me? Mother said I couldn’t sleep back then unless you sang me that. “Ang kang Alex, mga saging, wa namunga kay gagmating (Alex’ banana didn’t bear fruit because they’re still young)”. Wow. Even the song reflects how much you love to be a farmer. ‘We are the Champions’ by the Queen had become our favourite through the years. Oh, how we loved to chorus. You have no idea how you injected music through my veins. Thank you. It keeps me sane. What about … Continue reading A Letter to Dad

Books Forgotten

Promise I won’t be a cheat. No googling will happen. Books. That’s what I’m thinking at the moment while waiting for my boss to give me an overwhelming paper works. Books. Why the hell are you bugging me now (Trying to resist the urge. I see to it I have one with me)? Books. Then I get some post it and scribble the books I can vaguely remember what’s it about (I have the poorest memory). Your challenge: Help me remember 1. Laws in Obligations and Contract I am done with all the textbooks from school so I do not … Continue reading Books Forgotten

The Lotto Man

Social intercourse is not my cup of tea. Talking to strangers is my forte. Damn! What a lame intro. Beg your pardon then, just tipsy. But this is not about my being drunk it’s about the man (forgot who the smoke) I met an hour ago. The media feed me tons of information about lottery—winners, million losers and HOPErs. I also heard about people getting addicted to the point of doing real nasty things just to fuel their vice, or shall I say risk taking scheme for success. I was out the park and all of my kid cousins were … Continue reading The Lotto Man
